About the Author

Hella Brunnemann grew up among orchards and village churches in central Germany — a part of the country where everyone knows everyone, and secrets somehow manage to keep for decades anyway.

As a child she much preferred the library to the sports field, and there she developed a love for old-fashioned mysteries: the kind where you can think along without being frightened. No violence, no gore — just a carefully laid puzzle, a manageable cast of suspects, and in the end: justice.

Eventually she decided to write that kind of world herself. The result was Lindenbrück — a fictional village somewhere in the rolling hills of North Hesse, with a bakery, a market square, and the Squirrel Café that Hanna Förster inherited from her grandmother.

Hella Brunnemann writes mysteries you can read at eleven in the evening without lying awake afterwards. With the scent of baking, the rhythm of the seasons, and a real recipe at the end of every book.

"A good cosy mystery is like a good cake: the ingredients have to be right, the proportions too — and at the end you should feel properly looked after."
— Hella Brunnemann
